About Timothy Schoen
I am a May 2013 graduate of Penn State University with a degree broadcast journalism. In addition to my journalism degree, I have also earned a certificate of completion from the John Curley Center for Sports Journalism, as well as completing an English minor.
During my time at Penn State, I helped cover several events and teams as a staff writer for the Daily Collegian and through internships at other newspapers. I most recently covered Penn State football for the Altoona Mirror in the fall of 2012. I wrote articles for the print edition of the Mirror, as well as doing multimedia assignments for the online medium.
At the Collegian, I covered Penn State's wrestling team as it won its second straight national championship last season. I also assisted in coverage during the Jerry Sandusky scandal last fall. I wrote articles and recorded video for the newspaper as news of the scandal hit Penn State and of the fallout.
This past summer, I interned at Allied Services Integrated Health System in my hometown of Scranton, Pa., where I worked in corporate communications and fundraising. I helped produce the monthly company newsletter, wrote releases and correspondences, and helped coordinate special events.
I am also a high school baseball and football official. My experiences as an official have furthered my knowledge of sports, and help me when I am covering and reporting on games.
